Budapest Airport has welcomed its one millionth passenger in July 2015

Million passengers in a month
Budapest Airport has welcomed its one millionth passenger in a single month for the first time in its history. Tamás Hadik and his wife Orsolya Káli, disembarking from the Qatar Airways flight from Doha, were in for a special surprise as the count reached seven digits in July.
Stepping off the aircraft, the Hungarian couple was welcomed by airport chief executive officer Jost Lammers and Qatar Airways regional manager Grisha Jenkov, who surprised them with a gift pack worth one million forints at a ceremony in the middle of the terminal.
The lucky passengers received a free booking from Qatar Airways to any destination in its route network, while Lammers handed over an exclusive airport service package, a voucher and gift items.
The million passenger figure is a new landmark for Budapest Airport, which produced nearly 12% growth in the first half of 2015, namely almost half a million more aerial passengers for Budapest and Hungarian tourism than in the previous year.
Even according to cautious forecasts, another record year is expected. Airport  management, working hand in hand with airline decision-makers, has made big efforts over the past few years to launch new flights linking more and more cities with the Hungarian capital.
Lammers said: “Reaching yet another mystical threshold is a huge achievement for us. Last year we celebrated our nine millionth passenger in a year, and now, in July, we have handled more than a million passengers in the space of a single month.
“We are doing everything we can to keep Budapest Airport as the most dynamically growing travel destination in the CEE region, and to ensure that business and leisure travellers, foreign investors and business partners should look upon Budapest and Hungary as an attractive location.”
