Opel will invest 500 million in a new engine plant in Hungary

SZENTGOTTHARD (Hungary), 13 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The German car manufacturer Opel, a General Motors has begun construction on a new engine plant in the Hungarian city of Szentgotthard, southeast of the country, with an investment of 500 million euros.
The new factory will be operational late next year, according to the plans of the company, and will have a production capacity of 500,000 engines per year. Facilities will include a staff of 800 personnel.
In the ceremony of laying the first stone in the presence of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, President of General Motors Europe, Nick Reilly, said the new plant will produce engines and low CO2 emissions will be "one of the cornerstones "the new product offensive in the company.
Opel builds an investment of 500 million euros between 2001 and 2010 in the current Szentgotthard factory, which in the past twenty years has produced 6.5 million engines, cylinder heads five million and 85,000 units of the Opel Astra.
