The Hungarian Szilagyi get Olympic gold in saber
The Hungarian Szilagyi became champion by defeating Olympic saber in the final Italian touch Diego Occhiuzzi for 15 to 8, Sunday at the Olympic Games in London.
Russia's Nikolay Kovalev completed the podium in the second day of fencing at these Games, hanging bronze medal beating the Romanian Rares Dumitrescu (15-10).
Szilagyi's victory culminates a test victory at the 'outsiders' because Hungarian is one of the banners of the new generation (22 years), while the favorites were eliminated soon.
Szilagyi controlled to perfection, with a final exit at the whirlwind, which soon placed him 7 to 0. Ochiuzzi, visibly tired physically and had already had to spend a lot of strength to close his semifinal, never seemed to threaten the gold of his rival.
Hungary meets a long tradition of Olympic saber champion, which gives a thirteenth Szilagyi title.
Fencing The Italian team, which had already achieved a historic treble in Saturday's female foil, continues its sum of metals by Occhiuzzi, 31.
