Budapest - the richest capital in mineral springs in the world

In 1934 Budapest was officially ranked as a "City of Spas". One of the very special things about Budapest is the prevalence of thermal springs right in the centre of the city. There are 118 springs and boreholes altogether, supplying the city's spas and baths with 15.4 million gallons of water daily ranging in temperature from (21 to 78°C).

The properties of the mineral water to be found here are highly recommended for treating locomotor's disorders, vascular lesions, arthritic complaints, asthmatic diseases, chronic bronchitis complaints, several women's diseases. There are baths where stomach and gastric complaints can be cured, such as Lukács Bath.

Baths

Széchenyi Thermal Bath and Swimming Pool

Address: 1146 Budapest, 11, Állatkerti street

One of the largest baths complexes in Europe (15 pools, 20 and 38°C) in the City Park (Városliget) situated in the outstanding building of Széchenyi Thermal Baths and Swimming Pool. This unique bath provides its visitors with miscellaneous services in an extraordinary environment in the heart of Budapest. The location provides you with the possibility of having a nice walk after a relaxing and healthy bath.

Saint Lucas Thermal Baths and Swimming Pool

Address: 1026 Budapest, 25-29, Frankel Leó street.

Opened for public in 1937 (building completed in 1894), it is famous for its healing waters and services. The only hot water mud bath is Budapest is to be found here. It is also known as a favourite meeting place of the artistic world.

Rudas Baths

Address: 1013 Budapest, 23, Döbrentei square

The main building of the baths was completed in 1566. The octagonal basin of the Turkish bath is situated under a 10 metre diameter cupola which has small hexagons cut out to allow light to filter down, creating a magical atmosphere for guests having a bath beneath it.

Gellért Thermal Baths and SPA

Address: 1118 Budapest, 4, Kelenhegyi street

The Gellért Bath and Hotel itself was built in the preceding decades, in secession style.

This is Budapest's finest thermal bathing complex, still displaying original art nouveau fittings, colourful mosaics, marble columns and stained glass windows and statues.

Gellert Hill hides a great number of spring accesses, which supply the bath water that is rich in minerals. Helping to cure several diseases, there is a large variety of services offered for the guests.
